Media player is a general term to refer to computer software that can play multimedia files. Most media players can play audio and video files. Media players that focus on audio or video are called audio players and video players. Microsoft Windows has a media player called Windows Media Player. The latest version is Windows Media Player 11, which is bundled with Windows Vista and is available for download on Windows XP SP2. On the Mac OS X operating system, the media player provided is Quicktime Player to play Quicktime and iTunes format video files to play various media formats. Kanca Media Player from Indonesia and Winamp which only runs on Windows operating systems support Apple iPods and various other portable formats such as Zen Creative. In Linux, media players like VLC, MPlayer, xine, and Totem are known.
